A PRINCE2 consultancy example We advised on adapting PRINCE2 for 'supplier side' project management and a PRINCE2 based project management service to customers which is now generating considerable extra income A leading software house has leading penetration of their product in their market sector, but it is a sector which is generally unused to project management. We helped the company adapt the method for use with a project manager from the supplier side, not the customer side, but without taking responsibility from the customer for doing their part of the work. We worked with the company to develop the core Product Flow Diagram which covers the key products in their installation projects. The software house is now offering a highly professional, PRINCE2 based project management service alongside the technical work to install the software package and is, quite rightly, charging for this effort. The approach is set out in a booklet which is given to the top management of their customer companies when the installation of the software is first discussed.
This Inspirandum consultancy input was done in a single consultancy day. A briefing in the first part of the morning, then solutions and planning until late afternoon. The planning diagram was put onto computer and emailed back to the client by 10pm the same day.
A project management (project planning) assignment We ran a workshop for an automation machinery installation project ... that was literally 'on track' This was to develop a project plan for replacing a series of machines while maintaining full installation capacity load. We used the powerful 'product led' approach to planning as well as providing guidance on other aspects of the Project Initiation Documentation (PID).
The plan also had to work to minimise disruption of the project by major works on an underground rail line which would be underway at the same time underneath one of two buildings involved in the project and which would completely disrupt the ground floor. So the work was very much 'on track' - a railway track :-) This consultancy workshop was done over three and a half days, with the team staying on for a further day to complete the final sections of the preparation such as resource planning
A risk consultancy assignment We worked with a professional organisation in the finance sector to think through a strategy for corporate risk management including integration with project risk management. This was translated into a structure, responsibilities and procedures which was then rolled out to the whole organisation using our 3 briefing sessions. Senior managers We ran a short briefing session explaining the structure that had been thought about and making adjustments after discussion. The initial thinking about a structure followed a short consultation with Inspirandum on the sort of approaches possible. Managers We ran a two half day sessions for managers at Heads of Department level. The procedures were adjusted more in the light of their comments. Roll out to all staff Finally we ran a series of 30 minute briefing sessions held over two days to brief all staff in the organisation on the new risk strategy, the reasons for needing it and the part that all staff had to play in considering risk in their areas of work and monitoring known risks.
These staff sessions were supplemented with a PowerPoint narrated slide show for those staff who were unable to attend the half hour briefing sessions (such as those who were working away from headquarters).
