introduction to project management |
|
|
This course covers essential areas of project management, focusing particularly on the 'hard skills' of planning and control. It acts as an introduction to the whole discipline of project management and gets across key skills and knowledge fast.
This course is dynamic and moves rapidly from teaching on each subject to practical work to reinforce that teaching. This fast pace makes it hard work but also great fun and it has been very well received.
The course runs for 2 days and is delivered 'in-company' to focus on your specific project environment and to allow your staff to discuss the use of the techniques on your projects.
This course is suitable for those just starting out in project management who have just started, or are about to start, a project. It can also be used where more experienced staff have not had formal training and want to be sure that they are taking the best approach and are up to speed with planning and control techniques. The idea number for this course is between 8 and 12 people but will work with numbers up to 15. It can also be run with groups as small as 4.
The standard content of this course is set down below, but we can adjust it to meet your specific needs. We strongly recommend, however, that the duration is the full 2 days. Trying to cover the content in just 1 day is not cost effective in that those attending will not have learned the skills in the time. It is the difference between having heard about a technique and being able to go back onto a project and actually use it. As it is so easy to waste much more than a day in a project by not knowing how to apply techniques properly and quickly, we suggest that a 1 day event is not often good value for money. Having taken staff out of the office (the biggest expense) it makes sense that they learn the techniques well.
The course covers essential areas of project management and focuses on hard skills such as planning.
the fit with the PRINCE2 project method This course has been carefully engineered not to conflict with the PRINCE2™ project management method where the subject matter overlaps with PRINCE. That means you are not going to have to 'unlearn' and 'relearn' if you are already using PRINCE2 or are planning to adopt it at some point in the future.
