There is a lot of waste in the use of the PRINCE2 method, simply because organisations do not properly understand how to implement it and then use in on individual projects. Our full course range goes a long way to helping everyone in the organisation understand the power of PRINCE2 and how to release that power. The Inspirandum range of accredited training covers all parts of the organisation from the board room to the team room and from a short one-hour briefings to a full PRINCE2 Practitioner course.
powerful PRINCE2 training from Inspirandum
The PRINCE2 Workshops (1 - 3 days) We run a series of workshops designed to teach particular parts of PRINCE2, if needed, and then to work on live projects. We can run workshops on any aspect of the method and projects, but the most common are .... The PRINCE2 Start Up Workshop (typically 1 to 2 days) to look at an idea for a project and produce a Project Brief. This can include outline product planning. The PRINCE2 Product Planning Workshop (typically 1 to 2 days) to cover product planning and, with the two day variant, to produce first cut product plans for a project. The PRINCE2 Risk Workshop (typically 1 day) to identify and analyse risk in a project and make an intial assessment of how each should be handled Setting Up a Successful Project Office (typically 1 to 3 days) to cover key project support skills such as planning as well as to help define exactly what services the Project Office will and will not offer.
The PRINCE2 Senior Managers' Briefing (1 - 2 hours) Suitable for directors and other senior managers, this briefing is between one and two hours. Clearly, more can be put across in two hours than one. We have delivered the briefing over lunch where senior managers are particularly busy. They listen while they eat, then there is time to deal with any questions.
The PRINCE2 Overview (short day - 6 hours) This overview is run in a 'short day' to allow staff time in the office before and after the event. Typically it runs from 10 am to 4 pm with a 45 minute break for lunch. It is suitable for all staff from managers through to team members, to get an understanding of not only what PRINCE2 is, but how and why it works.
The PRINCE2 Practitioner Course - with Foundation (4-5 days) Our 'flagship' course, this event covers the full detail of PRINCE2. It includes the exams, though these are optional. The format is to cover the whole method in the first four days, with the Foundation Exam being on the afternoon of the fourth day. For those wanting to take the Practitoner Exam, there is a fifth day that takes the form of an exam workshop in the morning and the Practitioner Exam itself in the afternoon. Although the course includes the exams, it is not 'exam cram'. Inspirandum gives clear teaching on how to apply the method productively to projects so that delegates leave confident that they can use PRINCE2 appropriately and intelligently. We do not teach a 'Foundation only' course because we see no point in telling people about structure and terminology without the accompaning insight and skills to make it all work. Those only wanting to take the Foundation leave the Inspirandum course at the end of Day 4, but still having had exactly the same practical input as those taking the Practitioner Exam.
PRINCE2 for the Project Board (1 day) The Project Board is a vital management function in PRINCE2, but is widely misunderstood and underestimated, and therefore fulfilled badly. This one day course is both very informative and quite hard hitting. It pulls no punches on the responsibility of the individual board membes, but also explains clearlyhow PRINCE2 works and how to carry out the Project Board roles effectively. It is a long day, working through the chronology of a project from Start Up to closure and typically runs from 9 am to 5.30 pm with 45 minutes for lunch. All those attending the course receive a copy of the Inspirandum 'Project Board Handbook' which has useful advice and checklists for key points of Project Board involvement.
PRINCE2 and Planning for the Project Board - (2 days) This course is a variant of PRINCE2 for the Project Board, and is designed for board members who are not familiar with the techniques for product and activity planning in projects. During the project, board members are not only required to discuss plans with the Project Manager, but also to approve them. Clearly they cannot do this unless they understand them - it would be like a Finance Manager approving a balance sheet when they don't really understand what a balance sheet is! This two day course has the same content as the one day course, but interspersed with sessions on planning techniques including the powerful product planning techniques. It also allows slightly more time than the one day variant for discussion of live projects and the organisational approach to PRINCE2. Some managers think that taking two days out is a long time when their schedule is busy. A good answer to that is how many days of their time will be taken up if their projects go wrong! Like the one day variant, all those attending this course receive a copy of the Inspirandum 'Project Board Handbook'.
